In the center of the plot is the medical examiner, pathologist Paul Herzfeld, who discovers in the head of a severely mutilated corpse a capsule containing a phone number and one word: the name of his mysteriously disappeared daughter. So Paul gets involved in a game of cat and mouse with the kidnapper-a psychopath, throwing the hero all the new tips in other corpses.
