The film is set in a fictional version of modern Los Angeles, where there are both people and puppet characters-Muppets, which are treated as second-class citizens. When the unknown kill the brother of a former COP and now private investigator (and part of the doll), he decides to find the criminals. It soon becomes clear that the death of his brother a guilty serial killer, now set their sights on the actors in the popular children's show of the 1980s. Deciding that he can't cope with the maniac alone, the detective takes his companions of a female police officer.
